MYTH – You should change your oil every 3 months or 3,000 miles
This one used to be true, but while newer cars can go much longer, the myth has survived. Check your owner’s manual – most modern cars can go much longer, often between 5,000 and 7,500 miles. The average driver puts about 12,000 miles on a car every year. Following the myth, that’s 4 oil changes. If you follow your owner’s manual, you’d really only need 2, which would save you at least $50 a year!
